Dear reviewers,

The Tree Care for Birds and Other Wildlife Program of the Western Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture has developed a new edition of the Best Management Practices (BMPs): Tree Care for Birds and Other Wildlife. This new edition has been expanded to cover the geographic regions of Arizona, California, Hawaii, and Nevada.

We are seeking comments from tree care professionals, wildlife experts, and anyone who may have an interest in conflicts between tree care and wildlife. We are especially seeking reviewers from Arizona, California, Hawaii, and Nevada.

As you read through the draft of the new edition of the BMPs, bear in mind that we are still developing final illustrations and certain references/resources. If you do not have time to review the document, please review a section that you have particular knowledge and interest in. This document is open for public review, so please share with anyone who may be interested.

Please submit all comments via email to the authors at bmp@treecareforbirds.com by April 30, 2021.

In your email, please include:

  • Name, location, and area of expertise.
  • Specific references sections, page number, or other identifying characteristics for your comments.

In particular, we are interested in feedback on:

  • How easy is this to use and understand?
  • How applicable are these guidelines to your geographic area and type of work?
  • What is missing and what questions do you have after using this approach?

If you have questions or would like to give comments verbally, sign up for one of our two workshop sessions with the BMP authors:

Please visit http://treecareforbirds.com for more information and updates on this work as well as opportunities to download this document from the website during the comment period.

The Tree Care for Birds and Other Wildlife committee and project team thank you sincerely for taking the time to review and submit comments on our Draft Tree Care for Wildlife Best Management Practices.
